Tomorrow is tomorrow is tomorrow

Its EVERYWHERE! Big honkin’ ads for chocolates and jewelry and stupidly slushy greeting cards and flowers and dinners and lingerie! UGH! I’m surrounded by love-sick be’ins.

I was on the phone with my friend Danika this morning. I love Danika. I have loved Danika since college. She is the best gal-pal a gal could ever ask for. EXCEPT when it comes to this time of year.

Four years ago Danika met Mr. Right who is now Mr. Danika. And every since then, she makes it a point to call me the day before the slushiest day of the entire year, just to let me know that they are going here or there for that day, or he bought her this or that or blah blah blah blah blah… and she always ends with “Don’t worry Chloe. Some day, you’ll find someone too.”

Every time she does this, it gives me pause to think. Does my life reflect the appearance of someone who is desperately lonely? Have I become that friend? Will the next step be private meetings between mutual friends to find a date for Chloe? Will they form a club? (Who would design the teeshirts? I’m the only artist in the bunch!)

In years past, I’ve actually argued with Danika trying to convince her that I am perfectly happy with my life just the way it is. But this time, I didn’t.

Tomorrow night, I’ll be doing what I’ve done every year on Valentines day – working.  And I’m looking foward to it because it’s going to be a good tip-night (guys always try to impress their girlfriends by tipping big). When I count up my tips, I hope to have enough to splurge on this as a VD gift to myself , after I pay the rent, of course.

I’m going snowboarding this weekend with another group of friends, whom I sure are just as desperate to see me attached so our five-soms can become six-oms.

Dear blogosphere, why is it assumed that a woman by herself is a woman alone? When will the world realize that sometimes, a woman just likes it this way?
