The Name Game
Logo and name shopping can be such a total drain! It’s not that I’ve ever thought my meager little designs would turn into a world wide fashion craze and I would go from “lofty girl with a cool bag” to The House of Chloe, however, I do need a logo to put upon my artsy little fashions, just so someone, anyone knows – “OH! That’s one of Chloe Jayne’s!”
When I started researching possible brand names and subsequent logos, I quickly found that there is already in existence a “Chloe” design company. The nerve! Don’t they know that I’ve been sporting this moniker for very nearly 30 years now?
Not being one to make great waves within industry, I decided to look for something else. Until now, my wares have been sold solely through word of mouth and the occasional show inclusion, and one each little card that is included with each purchase, I simply sign it “Love Always, Chloe Jayne.” I like it. Its simple, its clean. Its me. But now that I’m planning on opening an e-store, I do need a logo and a name.
While researching, I did discover that my name is a French derivative of the name of a Greek Goddess, Demeter. She was Goddess of the Bountiful Harvest. Jayne, on the other hand, was my mother’s rather Bohemian attempt at the formal Jane, which is a derivative of the English ‘John’ which is an English form of Johannes, which is actually which was the Latin form of the Greek name Ιωαννης(Ioannes), itself derived from the Hebrew name יוֹחָנָן(Yochanan) meaning “YAHWEH is gracious”. Good Grief!
And here I thought this was going to be simple!
So, if I can find a way to incorporate A Bountiful Harvest with Graciousness and come up with a design for a logo, I’ll be all set. Any suggestions? I’m open here.
